Quake ravaged Kaiapoi to be lead by new mayor

The rebuilding of earthquake-ravaged Kaiapoi will be led by a new mayor, David Ayers.

Waimakariri District residents have voted in David Ayers, over the incumbent Ron Keating.

Mr Ayers received more than 7000 votes - about 3000 ahead of Mr Keating.

New mayor for Hurunui

A North Canterbury merino farmer is set to become the next mayor of Hurunui District.

In what is shaping up as a landslide victory, Winton Dalley has more than 2600-votes - two thirds of the 4000 valid-thousand valid votes cast.

Ninety-eight percent of returned voted have been counted on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Dalley's nearest rival, Alex Cooke, has 723 votes.

Ashburton elects new mayor

Former Canterbury regional councillor Angus McKay has won the Ashburton mayoral race, beating incumbent Bede O'Malley.

Preliminary results show Mr McKay received 5500 votes, while Mr O'Malley has just over 4000 votes.

Mr McKay lost his job as regional councillor earlier this year when the council was replaced by government-appointed commissioners following criticism of its management of fresh water.

Annear re-elected in Timaru

The Timaru District has voted to retain Janie Annear as mayor.

Ms Annear received just over 10,000, about 5000 ahead of closest rival Jane Coughlan, a long-time councillor.

Selwyn district mayor returned

The incumbent mayor of the Selwyn District, Kelvin Coe, has scraped to another win.

Mr Coe received 5500 votes - just 800 more than his only rival, Bill Woods.

Gray Kaikoura mayor

Preliminary results show Winston Gray will be the next Mayor of Kaikoura.

Mr Gray has a lead of more than 500 votes over his nearest rival.

Mackenzie District race cliffhanger

The mayoral race in the Mackenzie District is on a knife edge.

With special votes yet to be verified, Claire Barlow holds a 30-vote lead over Graeme Page.
