Comfortable victory for Chathams mayor

Alfred Preece has captured 75% of the vote in the Chatham Islands to retain the mayoralty.

Of the 238 votes, 180 were cast for Mr Preece, while the remaining 58 were cast for the other candidate Joseph Tapara.

Four new faces elected to Chathams' eight-member council are Dale Whaitiri, Gregory Horler, Ronald Tuuta and Keri Day.

Those re-elected are Monique Croon, Jeffrey Clarke, Nathaniel Whaitiri and Nigel Ryan.
