New Mayor wants McKinnon as deputy

Updated at 11:04 am on 23 October 2010

New Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown is to nominate Ian McKinnon to continue in the role of deputy mayor.

She says she has watched Mr McKinnon in the role during the past three years and is confident his commitment to the position and understanding of it will complement her strengths.

Ms Wade-Brown says she and Mr McKinnon will not always vote the same way on issues, but says that is all part of the democratic process.

Councillors will vote on the nomination on 27 October.

Mr McKinnon says he will be honoured to continue in the position if councillors support the nomination.
