New Zealand tennis number one Marina Erakovic has been drawn to face Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak in the first round of the women's singles at the London Olympics.

Wozniak is ranked eight places below Erakovic.

The tournament is being played in a knockout format and the winner of the match between Erakovic and Wozniak will play either American Venus Williams or Italian Sara Errani in the second round.

The first round match is expected to be played on Sunday.

The New Zealand Olympic Committee selected Erakovic on the basis that she is capable of reaching the top 16.

The 24-year-old is currently ranked 47th in the world.
