Cross country biker places 18th

Karen Hanlen has finished midway down the field in the Olympic women's cross country mountain biking event.

Hanlen, who is ranked 21st in the world, finished 18th out of 30 riders.

The gold medal was won by Julie Bresset of France.

Sabine Spitz of Germany won silver and Georgia Gould from the United States won bronze.

Hanlen turned to the sport only two years ago, but has made a big impact on the world scene with some impressive World Cup placings.
