The New Zealand flag will be carried at the Paralympics' closing ceremony in London by swimmer Sophie Pascoe.

New Zealand won a total of 17 medals in swimming, cycling and shooting.

Swimmers won 12 of them, with Pascoe winning three gold and three silver, Mary Fisher one gold, two silvers and a bronze, Cameron Leslie won one gold and Daniel Sharp a silver.

Pascoe told Radio New Zealand's Morning Report programme that she plans to take a couple of months off before beginning training for the 2016 Games in Brazil.

She said that the reality of being flag bearer has not quite sunk in.

Chef de mission Duane Kale earlier said he is very proud of what the team achieved.
