Power restored for more in storm-hit regions

Powerco says it made good progress restoring power to customers in Whanganui and South Taranaki on Wednesday.

About 1300 customers remain without supply after a severe storm at the weekend.

Many poles were brought down, including about 600 lines, while some transformer structures were destroyed.

Powerco network operations manager Phil Marsh says electricity was restored to Manaia, Kakaramea and Manutahi in South Taranaki, and parts of Whanganui on Wednesday.

However, Mr Marsh says due to the scale of the damage, some areas may take at least another week to rebuild.
