Minister seeks details on teacher with sex conviction

9:27 pm on 8 March 2012

The Minister of Education says she is urgently seeking details on reports that a man with a sex conviction is teaching in an Auckland school.

It has been reported that the man was convicted in 2009 for offences in 1991.

Minister Hekia Parata says she is seeking more information from the Teachers Council.

She says she has every sympathy for the victim's family.

Ms Parata says Boards of Trustees have employment protocols and it appears the board of the school involved is standing by the employment choice it has made.
