One man is dead and another seriously injured after a quad bike crash on a beach near Bulls in the Rangitikei District.
Police say a group of four or five people had been fishing off Moana Roa Beach about 1.30am on Saturday when a quad bike carrying two of them home collided with driftwood.
Emergency services have been attending the scene near the end of Parewanui Road at Scott's Ferry.
Inspector Ken Climo says the pair were found by the other fishermen soon after the crash.
One person died at the scene and the other has been taken to Palmerston North Hospital with head injuries, he says.
The crash is being investigated.
