Poor weather is preventing a search being made for six climbers in Mt Cook National Park.
The climbers, who were intending to traverse Annette Plateau from Barron Saddle to Mueller Hut, set off a personal emergency beacon just after 10pm on Thursday.
The Rescue Co-ordination Centre says an attempt was made to send a helicopter from Christchurch, but the weather was too poor.
The Department of Conservation believes the six are Australian.
