Search still on hold for climbers

12:52 pm on 15 August 2008

Weather conditions are still too bad to allow a search to begin for six climbers trapped in Mt Cook National Park.

The climbers, who are believed to be Australians, were intending to traverse Annette Plateau from Barron Saddle to Mueller Hut. A personal emergency beacon was set off just after 10pm on Thursday.

The Rescue Co-ordination Centre says a helicopter and a specialist alpine crew are waiting at the bottom of the mountain for a break in the weather.
