Alerts won't be placed in bulbs despite safety issues

The Fire Service says it won't place an alert in energy-saving bulbs despite reported instances of them burning-out light fittings.

The Service says it has been informed by a Government agency, Energy Safety Services, of incidents where the bulbs have caused safety issues.

It says it has not received any complaints directly, but it is asking fire crews to watch for problems with the bulbs while attending calls.

National Fire Investigation Manager Peter Wilding says the service would like to hear from anyone who has experienced safety problems with the bulbs.

Energy Safety says it has received fewer than half a dozen complaints.
