Nelson police are interviewing a man about the death of a woman whose body was found in a car in the city on Monday afternoon.
The man, 44, walked into the police station to say the woman, 37, was in a van in Harley Street, nearby.
The area has been cordoned off and a homicide inquiry is under way.
The Nelson CIB head, Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne McCoy, says it is not certain where the woman died, but a scene in the Maitai Valley is also being examined.
He says ESR specialists and a pathologist from Christchurch will arrive on Tuesday.
