Bacteria risk prompts sandwich recall

9:06 am on 14 March 2012

The food company Goodman Fielder New Zealand is pulling one of its sandwich brands from stores in the North Island because of what it's calling a serious health risk.

Gourmet Farmhouse sandwiches in the company's Deli Kitchen range, which have use by dates of 13 or 15 March may contain the bacteria listeria monocytogenes.

Goodman Fielder says customers should not eat these sandwiches under any circumstances.

It says if anyone has eaten the product and has concerns about their health, they should contact a doctor immediately.

The company has not yet determined the source of the health scare.
