A man charged with the murder of a service station attendant in Turangi three decades ago can now be named.

Name suppression for Menzies Hallett, 71, was lifted at the High Court in Rotorua on Friday.

He is accused of the murder of Rodney Tahu at a service station in 1979.

An earlier decision by a District Court judge to lift name suppression had been appealed against by Mr Hallett's lawyer.

The accused will next appear in court on 17 April.
