Police say they are continuing their investigation into a white powder scare at Parliament last week.

Three parliamentary staff and a security guard were decontaminated last Thursday after an unknown white powder was sent in an envelope to the eighth floor of the Beehive, which is occupied by staff working for the Prime Minister's Office.

Police spokesperson Kaye Calder says the substance was harmless and neither biological nor chemical, but says police will not reveal what it was.
