Team of experts to tackle child poverty

6:15 am on 20 March 2012

The Children's Commissioner has formed a team to come up with suggestions to prevent child poverty.

The group is made up of representatives of groups including Business New Zealand and the Salvation Army, along with academics specialising in law, social policy, health and education.

Commissioner Russell Wills says he has asked the group to come up with realistic, pragmatic and effective ways to combat child poverty.

The group will also consider public submissions from members of the community.

Dr Wills says it will produce a report by the end of this year which will be passed on to the newly formed Ministerial Committee on Poverty.
