Flights resumed at Wellington Airport on Thursday after dense fog the day before halted flights in and out of the capital disrupting the plans of thousands of travellers.
Flights were cancelled or diverted from 3pm on Wedneday, when visibility dropped to less than 500 metres at times.
Air New Zealand said 2500 travellers had been affected.
More than 100 passengers stayed at the airport overnight on Wednesday. They were given blankets, food and water by Air New Zealand and airport staff.
The majority of flights had resumed on Thursday morning.
