A murder victim's father has told Parliament homicide victims need a court appointed legal advocate to represent them during trials.

Ron Bishop's son, Dean Browne, was killed in a hammer attack in 2010 and two men were convicted of his murder last year.

Mr Bishop told Parliament's justice select committee Thursday that his son, who had no convictions, was portrayed as a criminal

He says there is no one in court to stand up for victims.
