Hundreds of submissions on Milford monorail plan

The Department of Conservation has received more than 300 submissions on a proposed monorail through conservation land near Milford Sound.

Submissions closed on the $200 million project on Monday.

The monorail, and the proposed Milford Dart Tunnel, would cut travel times between Milford Sound and Queenstown.

DOC Southland conservator Barry Hanson says the next step is to analyse the submissions and arrange a hearing for those who want to present their submission to a panel.

Mr Hanson says the company behind the project, Riverstone Holdings Ltd, will also need resource consents from local authorities before it can proceed with the plan.
