AMI secures naming rights to new stadium

The naming rights for Christchurch's newest stadium have been secured by AMI Insurance.

Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says the company's continued backing of sport and entertainment in Christchurch is welcome, especially considering the uncertain future of quake-damaged AMI Stadium on the edge of the CBD.

Mr Brownlee says the new AMI Stadium, in Addington, will deliver some normality for Cantabrians who have not been able to attend large sporting events for more than a year.

The minister will officially open the venue on Saturday night when the Canterbury Crusaders play the Cheetahs.

It will be the team's first home game in nearly two years.
