Liquor outlets caught selling to minors

A police operation has caught several liquor outlets in Wellington selling alcohol to minors this week.

The police say they sent two 17-year-old volunteers to test 12 bottle stores and grocery shops on Wednesday night.

Sergeant John Lewis says nearly half the stores tested sold the teenagers alcohol.

He says three outlets did ask for identification, but did not look at the birthdate on the driver's licence handed to them.

One of the stores has been referred to the Liquor Licensing Authority, and the other four are being dealt with by the police.
