Bank workers stop work over proposed pay rise

6:37 pm on 22 August 2008

ANZ and National Bank union staff stopped work on Friday but won't be taking any further action.

The two banks' 2,500 Finsec Union members stopped work for two hours on Friday morning.

Finsec's campaign manager Andrew Campbell says 51% of staff at the stopwork meeting voted to take no further action.

He says the staff are disappointed at a proposed wage increase of 4%, and what they describe as a target-based sales programme.

However, Mr Campbell says they felt the cost of ongoing strike action was too high.
