An Australian expert will investigate whether a massive privacy breach at the Accident Compensation Corporation has revealed problems in its organisation or systems.
Privacy Commissioner Marie Shroff says that former Australian Federal Privacy Commissioner Malcolm Crompton will investigate the way that ACC handles private information about its clients.
She opened the investigation after it was revealed an ACC staff member accidentally emailed a client details of more than 9000 claims.
The review team will report their findings to the ACC Board and to the Privacy Commissioner.
Ms Shroff says individual privacy complaints about the data breach will be handled as usual by her office's complaints investigation process.
