Protest group apology over 'out of control' element

7:35 am on 25 March 2012

The Occupy Christchurch group is apologising for problems caused by some people living at its South Hagley Park camp site.

The remainder of the group is leaving the site this weekend, following a decision by the Christchurch City Council to evict them.

The Canterbury District Health Board had complained about the behaviour of some campers that have affected the nearby hospital's toilet facilities.

Occupy Christchurch spokesperson Rik Tindall says the apology is for the conduct of a group of people who didn't come to the camp for a political protest.

He says they are predominately young people who came to party and became out of control.

Mr Tindall says the camp will be abandoned by Sunday evening.
