Police in Tauranga have charged a 21-year-old forestry worker with manslaughter in relation to the death of a cyclist in January this year.

They say David Armstrong, of Tauranga, died after being hit by a car in an outlying area south-west of the city in January this year.

Dillon Bishop appeared in the Tauranga District Court on Monday charged with causing Mr Armstrong's death.

He was released on bail to reappear on 16 April.
