Commuters in the greater Wellington region could face annual fare increases for the next decade if the regional council's long term plan is approved.
The Greater Wellington Regional Council has agreed that bus, train and ferry fares will increase from 1 October.
The fare increase will bring in 3% more revenue to the council, but tickets on some routes could rise as much as 10%.
The council says there needs to be increases every year in order to cover costs and pay for improvements to the system.
