A group formed in Hamilton to save the country's oldest in-ground public swimming pool says it believes the pool can retained.
The municipal pool celebrates its centenary later this year but the Hamilton City Council is struggling to find the $1.4 million required to upgrade it.
Spokesperson for the group Sink or Swim Megan Bourke believes the pool can be saved for less.
She wants the projected cost of the upgrade checked to see if it can be done more cheaply or the cost spread over a longer period.
Ms Bourke says the pool is a heritage site and must be saved.
