Extension to fire training centre opens

The Fire Service has opened a multimillion-dollar extension to its National Training Centre in Rotorua.

The new centre provides realistic spaces and buildings, such as a three-storey tower block and a train tunnel to prepare fire crew for real-life situations.

The centre also means officer training can now be undertaken in Rotorua instead of Australia, which is where a lot of the more advanced training previously had been done.

The facility costs $11.5 million.
