Extension of time for report on sex offender

3:01 pm on 4 April 2012

Education Minister Hekia Parata says an inquiry into the employment of a convicted sex offender in the education sector has been given more time.

A ministerial inquiry was initiated in February after it was revealed a man, 41, had been working in schools since his conviction in 2004 for sexual offences against a minor.

The inquiry was to have reported back at the end of this month, but that has now been extended until 15 June because of difficulty in speaking to key witnesses.
