Buckled pylon to be inspected

Transpower is to send geotechnical experts to the site of a buckled power pylon in Marlborough, to assess what can be done to fix it permanently.

A leg of the pylon was bent when the ground beneath it subsided during recent heavy rain. The problem was discovered on Thursday.

Crews spent Friday strengthening the pylon with guy ropes but the measure is not permanent.

The structure is part of the North Island-South Island link, but Transpower says the flow of electricity was not disrupted.
