Police urge patience on roads

6:13 am on 9 April 2012

Roads around the country are likely to be congested on Sunday as people head home from their Easter break, and police are urging patience.

Police are hoping the zero road toll continues throughout the official holiday period, which ends at 6am on Tuesday.

Acting national road policing manager Rob Morgan says it's the responsibility of all motorists to drive to the conditions, and follow the road rules.

He says there will be a lot of traffic in and out of cities like Auckland and Wellington, as well as on the highways, so drivers will need to be patient.

"There will be queues of traffic out there, there will be people travelling on roads that they're not too familiar with."

Acting Superintendent Morgan says people need to plan their journeys home and allow extra time.
