Schools wary of cost of ultrafast broadband

6:47 am on 11 April 2012

School principals say the cost of ultrafast broadband will be too high for them to use it.

The Government is rolling out ultrafast broadband to schools, but so far only one company is offering a nationally-available ultrafast plan for schools.

Principals say that is not enough to ensure prices are competitive and they expect to cut spending in other areas so they can meet the higher internet costs.

The Ministry of Education is advising schools to sign up to short-term deals so they can switch to a cheap education network it plans to launch next year.
