Former national women's rugby players are campaigning to save the Otago Rugby Union's women's team which has been dropped due to the union's financial situation.
The union was on the verge of bankrupcy before a rescue package was secured last month.
The women's team is one of a number it has since cut.
Former Otago player and Black Ferns captain Farah Palmer says between $15,000 to $20,000 is needed to allow the women's team to take part in the national provincial championship this year.
The New Zealand Rugby Union will cover the cost of flights to championship matches, but funds need to be raised for accommodation and other expenses.
Palmer says the team can be saved if 200 supporters each give $100.
Margaret McCarrigan, another former Otago and Black Ferns player, says the players need an opportunity to show their skills to national selectors.
