Judge orders blanket suppression on raids hearing

4:20 pm on 3 September 2008

A blanket suppression order has been put in place for the depositions hearing of those caught up in police raids in 2007.

Eighteen of the 20 people arrested are appearing at the Auckland District Court this week on charges including illegally possessing firearms, ammunition and explosives.

Judge Mark Perkins on Wednesday ruled that no evidence is to be published by the media, as procuring a fair trial outweighs the public's interest in the case.

Judge Perkins also said some evidence presented by the Crown at the hearing may later be deemed inadmissible at trial.
