A registered nurse has admitted to administering botox to up to 10 clients at a Christchurch beauty clinic, despite not being qualified to do so.
Katie Harbrow, 34, is facing one charge of professional misconduct after a complaint was made that she was administering the medicine, which is only to be prescribed by a doctor.
Botox is a prescription only medicine and although a nurse practitioner can administer it, a registered nurse cannot.
A complaint has been made against the nurse that she treated clients with botox between November 2003 and May 2004.
At a disciplinary hearing in Christchurch on Wednesday, Ms Harbrow said she thought she was acting within the law.
She told the panel she assumed that a standing order had been signed with the company supplying the botox, and a doctor employed by the beauty clinic which allowed her to administer it.
However, there are no records of any standing order.
