Education group calls for early childhood funding reform

The head of the City of Manukau Education Trust says the Government could reach more poor families if it changed the funding system for early childhood education.

Trust chief executive Susan Warren says the Government's efforts to increase participation among poor families are good, but money should be more targeted.

"By targeting the funding to the families that need it most, more funding can be provided for them."

A Government taskforce has recommended shifting more funding to children from poor families, but many early childhood groups oppose the idea.
