The supreme fashion award at Style Pasifika has been won by a garment inspired by the Maori Battalion, and made of feathers, wool, organza and cotton.
More than 100 garments were shown at Style Pasifika which has become an important fixture on Auckland's fashion landscape and launches many new designers.
Winning designer Kiri Nathan says as a child images of her grandfather in his uniform made a big impression on her.
Designer Francis Hooper, who was a judge at the event, says the winning garment was rare and made with care, love and integrity.
Style Pasifika director Stan Wolfgramm says the maturity of the awards is providing his organisation with overseas opportunities as the innovative fashion is better recognised.
