The manager of the New Zealand Olympic team has high expectations for medal prospects at this year's Olympic Games.

The London Olympics will feature 26 sports, and New Zealand will be represented in 16 of them.

New Zealand is sending some 200 athletes this year - the 18th largest team - and 100 support staff.

Chef de mission Dave Currie says that at a final planning meeting last weekend it was evident that all the Kiwi athletes are on track.

He says many athletes are already ranked second or third in the world for their chosen sport and that sets them up well for medal contention.

Many athletes are now heading overseas for final qualifying competitions.

The Games begin on 27 July.
