Police taser man who rammed their car

9:42 pm on 20 April 2012

The police in Motueka have tasered and arrested a man they say threatened people with a weapon and rammed a police car.

They allege the man threatened people with a knife on the South Branch of the Riwaka Valley about 3.40pm on Friday.

Officers found him on the Takaka Hill Road, where they say he rammed their car twice at speed - seriously damaging both vehicles.

As officers attempted to arrest the man, he confronted them and was subsequently tasered.

A 44-year-old from Riwaka will appear in the Nelson District Court on Saturday on weapons, assault, drugs and driving charges.

The police say more charges are likely.
