A former Iraqi soldier has admitted murdering his wife at their Wellington home.

Najeeb Dawood appeared in the High Court in Wellington on Monday on charges including murder and wounding his daughter with the intent to murder her.

Eman Hurmiz, 41, died from stab wounds outside their home in the eastern suburb of Strathmore last September.

Justice Gendall remanded Dawood in custody to be sentenced at a later date.

Dawood will reappear in court in May on other charges unrelated to the death of his wife, including assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
