Rugby event tourism industry's priority

The New Zealand tourism industry says its top priority is getting ready for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

The Tourism Industry Association delivered an election manifesto to Parliament on Wednesday.

It outlines six marketing and investment priorities for the industry, which it says is now a $50-million-a-day business.

However, association chief executive Tim Cossar says the Rugby World Cup should be the critical focus for the next government.

Tourism Minister Damien O'Connor agrees that the Rugby World Cup should be the ultimate focus, noting that it has potential to be an Olympic-size event.
