Port dispute goes to mediation next week

12:09 pm on 24 April 2012

Ports of Auckland and the Maritime Union begin formal mediation next week.

Earlier this month, the parties applied to start facilitation with the Employment Relations Authority in an attempt to end the eight-month dispute over the workers' collective contract.

The mediation process is often used when parties have serious difficulties concluding a collective agreement.

The Maritime Union says the formal mediation has been set down for six days from Tuesday 1 May.
