Car crashes into Gisborne house

A fleeing car has crashed into the home of an elderly woman in Gisborne.

Police say the car was being driven on the wrong side of the road when it passed a parked police car, about 10.40pm on Tuesday.

The patrol car gave chase briefly, and came upon the car which had failed to take a bend and had crashed into the house, extensively damaging the living room.

Wellington central police communications says the woman was not in the room at the time, but was very shaken by the incident.

Two of the car's three occupants were injured. The driver wsa to appear in court on Wednesday charged with dangerous driving.

Road spikes laid

Police put road spikes out at Ashhurst, near Palmerston North about 3am on Wednesday for a vehicle they believed to have be stolen.

Police say the vehicle did not stop and a second set of spikes was laid as it was was pursued into Palmerston North.

The vehicle was then driven on the rims of three of its tyres into the grounds of Palmerston North Hospital where its occupants were arrested.

Two people will appear in court on Wednesday facing several charges including theft of a vehicle.

In another incident close to Woodville, near Palmerston North, police say a car was abandoned after being rolled into a police car.
