Another archaeological survey of Turkey's Gallipoli peninsula is being planned - this time by Turkish and Australian universities.

The survey will centre on Suvla Bay north of the Anzac battlefield where a five-year-long survey funded by the Australian, Turkish and New Zealand Governments is already about half-way through.

Ministry of Culture and Heritage war historian Ian McGibbon is the New Zealand participant in that survey and will also take part in new one in two years time.

Dr McGibbon says the Suvla Bay survey will include Hill 60, where 182 New Zealand troops were killed in what was the last major battle of the Gallipoli campaign.
