Farmers' markets want to attract more producers

Some farmers' markets are struggling to find enough stall-holders, because of a big rise in the number of markets.

Farmers' Market New Zealand chairman Chris Fortune says the number of farmers markets has grown from 21 to 42 in the past three years.

"Canterbury is a good example where there's seven farmers' markets within about 40 minutes of each other. They all run on different days and different times, but again, how many markets is too many?"

Chris Fortune hopes a project to authenticate all 42 of the country's farmers' markets over the next eighteen months will attract more producers keen to sell in a high quality marketplace.
