Shooting precautions urged

Fish and Game is urging shooters to take proper precautions. The duck shooting season begins next weekend.

Two hunters have been shot and killed this month, one in Southland and the other near Wellington.

Fish and Game chief executive Bryce Johnson says many duck shooting incidents come from handling errors of firearms.

The Deerstalkers Association says most hunting deaths are avoidable, with shooters not properly identifying their target.

New Zealand Sporting Shooters Association president Lech Beltowski says hunters can be overwhelmed by buck fever.
