Police are searching for a man who kicked down his holding cell door and escaped after appearing in a Christchurch court on Tuesday afternoon.
A police spokesperson says Jayson Nopera Rule escaped after appearing at the district court sitting at Nga Hau e Wha Marae.
The spokesperson says he was appearing on charges of assault and breach of home detention and had been remanded in custody.
He is described as Maori, 180 centimetres tall and of medium muscular build.
