The Auckland Council is planning to soften the increase in dog registration fees after opposition from thousands of owners.
The council had proposed to more than double some of the fees it charges and the revised increases to be considered on Thursday will still be significant.
A standard dog licence fee will rise from $104 to $145. It is $15 less than originally proposed.
An owner's licence for a dog which has not been de-sexed was going to more than treble from $53 to
$160, but instead would rise to $90.
Auckland mayor Len Brown says the council has listened to the 4500 people who made submissions on the registration fees and made the significant discounts as a result.
The report says the amended proposal will result in about a $900,000 drop in revenue, which will have to be made up by general rates.
