Attempt to talk to Talleys

Meatworkers Union members from North Island AFFCO works are travelling to Nelson and Motueka on Saturday to attempt to speak with the owners of Talleys, a food processing company which owns AFFCO.

A collective contract dispute began about two months ago, with lock-outs and strikes at eight sites.

On Wednesday, AFFCO lifted lock-out notices on about 300 employees, who then voted to strike in solidarity with 450 colleagues still locked out.

The union says nearly 40 members intend to visit the homes of the Talley brothers.

Spokesperson Simon Oosterman says they will have cupcakes should the Talleys come out to meet them.
